Overview
The Blades of Spite are a Drukhari raiding cadre affiliated with the Kabal of the Black Heart. They emerge from the webway to strike convoys, anchorages and isolated stations, withdrawing before an effective response can be mustered. They seek cargo, captives and notoriety. Territory is of little interest; the people passing through it are another matter.
Their ranks bring together Kabalite Warriors, Wych troupes and contracted Incubi, with Mandrakes appearing among the shadows of their raids. These forces are bound by profit, opportunity and ambition rather than any dependable sense of mutual loyalty.
Command
The cadre is led by Archon Vekhorax Soulspite, who bears the title Lord of the Pierced Veil. A distant blood relation of Asdrubael Vect, he occupies the margins of the Black Heart’s influence and intends to become considerably harder to ignore.
Previous ventures have cost him warriors, exposed him to betrayal and left him indebted to a Haemonculus Coven. He now selects his prey with greater patience, although his appetite for advancement remains undiminished.
Purpose at Vandros
The succession crisis offers the Blades of Spite a profitable distraction. Patrols diverted towards rival Imperial forces leave shipping exposed, while gaps in the Outer Watch provide opportunities to enter and withdraw unseen.
Vekhorax seeks captives for the slave-markets, flesh-pits and arenas of Commorragh, alongside plunder and a reputation that will carry his name into the city’s powerful spires. Every successful raid must demonstrate his value to the Black Heart without making his ambition appear threatening to its master.
Current Stance
The Blades of Spite favour neither Cassia nor Severan. Both administrations provide potential victims, and their mutual suspicion helps keep Imperial attention elsewhere. If either claimant attributes the raids to the other, the Blades have little reason to correct the misunderstanding.
The Imperial Guard and Space Marine Chapters are obstacles to profitable raiding rather than parties whose claims deserve consideration. Within the cadre, Succubus Zaerath Vexstride holds a particular animosity towards the Emperor’s red-armoured angels. The Veiled Talons have also previously clashed with greenskin infiltrators; no broader alliance with other xenos forces is established.
Their closest relationships are themselves conditional. Zaerath’s Wych cult fights alongside Vekhorax for spectacle and mutual advantage, while the Incubi of Drayzath Razorscythe serve under paid contract. The Black Heart tolerates the cadre so long as it remains useful. None of these arrangements should be mistaken for unconditional loyalty.
