The Vandros Vox
RELAY SEVEN SAVED! BUT WHERE WERE SEVERAN’S PROMISED PROTECTORS?
The Emperor's Angels have struck a mighty blow against the alien menace threatening our beloved Vandros! Answering our cries where the sector’s supposed guardians would not!
The famed Astartes company the Crimson Paladins have (without support from the Sector Administratum) wrested Relay Seven from alien slavers, preserving a vital outpost of the Outer Watch. Protector-Marshal Aurelan Thane lies grievously wounded, and brave warriors have fallen beneath his banner. Some of our fellow citizens remain in xenos captivity.
Readers will recall the assurances accompanying Lord Severan’s claim: Imperial troops would secure our installations and safeguard the corridor. Yet when Relay Seven called for aid, none came. Apparently, the protection of Vandros must wait until all have bent the knee to his lordship. Is this the security the administratum promised us?
The Paladins courage deserves more than grateful headlines. It deserves a government free to attend to the defence of its people. Which outpost will come under attack next? And will they be so lucky in their protectors?
Let Lady Cassia govern. Let Vandros defend itself.
The Vox extends its prayers to the wounded Protector-Marshal and the families of those lost. Readers wishing to contribute to the Relief Fund for Victims of Xenos Depredation may enquire at their nearest Ecclesiarchy collection office.
Annotation by Inquisitor Helena Voss
The Vox, though a trifle hysterical, has correctly identified the failure of governance, though it apportions responsibility according to its political leanings. In my view, both claimants bear similar responsibility; neither found the troops needed to answer a distress call. I will be interested to learn rather more about the terms under which the ongoing protection of the Paladins is offered. Cynics might point out that they have acquired a Forward Operating Base and a grateful (though somewhat diminished) population of serfs. The new Relay Seven commander is, I am assured, a capable individual. Whether he will exercise any meaningful authority over the armed giants now occupying his station is another matter. Meanwhile, my sources suggest that the sucessful capture of so many prisoners is only likely to embolden the Drukhari.

Have you fled the Outer Watch?
Are you seeking news of those left behind?
You have reached Vandros Primus. You need not face what follows alone.
By the Emperor’s grace, and through the generous patronage of House Valec, the Lantern Fellowship offers assistance to displaced households, station personnel and voidfarers fleeing xenos raids.
A hot meal. A sheltered bed. Care for the wounded.
Our clerks can also assist with lost papers and separated families.
Those with news of Relay Seven or neighbouring outposts are asked to speak with a Fellowship attendant. A name remembered, a vessel sighted or a few words overheard may help another family learn the fate of someone dear to them.
Look for the lantern beneath the arrivals concourse.
Our attendants bear its sign.
Through our Covenant of Grateful Service, assisted households are granted the dignity of useful employment under bonded indenture to a Fellowship-approved patron. Your term of service will be determined according to the relief received.

The Last Transmission
Encrypted dispatch to Inquisitor Helena Voss.
Source: GREYSHROUD.
My lady,
Relay Seven has missed three scheduled transmissions. Its last distress call reported unidentified vessels and weapons fire. Authentication confirmed.
On the recording, the operator repeats the station’s designation while someone shouts that the inner doors will not hold. He does not finish.
Cassia’s officers will not release a patrol lest Severan’s troops occupy the anchorage. His liaison has offered to secure it in their absence. This has not reassured them.
No substantial force has been dispatched.
The receiving servitor continues transmitting the standard instruction: maintain position and await assistance.
It will repeat this every hour until someone amends the order.

An Exchange of Courtesies
Representatives of the Scroll Holders, an Astartes strike force, have been received aboard the Stanchion of Doubt for discussions with officers of the Ironclad 122nd.
No communiqué has been issued. Asked whether the talks might lead to a formal cooperation pact, a regimental spokesman described the visit as “a routine exchange of courtesies between servants of the Emperor.”
Dock personnel report that these courtesies required a sealed strategium and an armed guard.
