House Valec

Faction: Vandrosian noble household

Commander: Magister Oren Valec

Overview

House Valec is a minor noble household of Vandros, bound to House Veyr through collateral marriages, inherited obligations and centuries of administrative service. Its members maintain family registers, administer trusts and settle the affairs of the dead. In a dynasty approaching its third millennium, these are considerable responsibilities.

Its seat, the House of Measure, stands among the archive towers of Hive Veyr: a weathered palace of vaulted repositories, ancestral chapels and petitioners’ halls. Clerks labour beneath the mortuary masks of their predecessors, while former custodians lie entombed below with their keys.

Prosperous, respectable and outwardly devout, the household enjoys a reputation for competent and fair administration. Its chancery is also faster than many of its rivals, a distinction its clients have practical reasons to appreciate.

Command

The household’s affairs are directed by Magister Oren Valec.

Ilyra Sen, First Steward, oversees its network of employees, clients and dependants. The household provides genuine benefits to those it serves, and their continued welfare forms part of its administration.

Purpose at Vandros

House Valec is already embedded in the institutions upon which Vandros depends. Its interests encompass property registration, cargo allocation around the Ascensor’s ground terminals and the administration of relief funds.

The succession crisis places renewed importance upon its records, connections and local knowledge. Valec relatives serve within Cassia’s circle, while Severan’s officials require the household’s administrative assistance. Its purpose is to remain useful whichever claimant prevails, preserving the position accumulated through generations of service.

Current Stance

House Valec maintains connections with both sides of the succession dispute. Its ties to Cassia’s circle coexist with its usefulness to Severan’s administration; neither relationship amounts to an exclusive declaration of allegiance.

Its established relationships extend through the Guild of Factors and Conveyancers, the Union of Dockworkers and the Association of Household Stewards. The Lantern Fellowship provides shelters, dispensaries and grain kitchens, while the Concordance Society draws scholars and Imperial servants to lectures on genealogy, civic history and ancient charters.

These activities bring the household into contact with members of the Administratum and Ecclesiarchy. No public alliance with the Imperial Guard or any Space Marine Chapter is established, nor does the household acknowledge ties to xenos forces. Its standing rests upon its reputation as a useful and dependable Imperial institution.
