The Ironclad 122nd

Faction: Astra Militarum — Cadian

Commander: Castellan Lord Lozzatron VII

Overview

The Ironclad 122nd are a nomadic, fleet-based battle group formed from survivors of the 122nd scattered during the fall of Cadia. Cut off from central command while garrisoning Forge-Anchor Secundus, an orbital shipyard and supply depot, they evacuated its stocks of heavy armour, ammunition and spare parts aboard the damaged Lunar-class cruiser Stanchion of Doubt.

They now pursue reports of fallen Imperial supply ships, abandoned Cadian strongholds and stranded armoured columns. To the Ironclad, recovering a Leman Russ or securing Cadian-pattern components is as sacred a duty as defending a hive city. The Imperium’s matériel is not to be abandoned merely because its previous custodians have been.

Command

The battle group is led by Castellan Lord Lozzatron VII, whose ancestors have repeatedly given their lives for the Emperor. Mindful of preserving that distinguished bloodline, he exercises command from aboard the Stanchion of Doubt.

Enginseer Prime Zoei “Iron Paw” Flawless is bound by ancient oaths to the regiment’s motor pool. Zoei leads its reclamation teams, personally inspects recovered armour and oversees the rituals attending the cruiser’s Machine Spirits.

Sergeant “Iron-Lung” Harek leads the vanguard, first into action and last to withdraw. He earned his nickname aboard an infested transport, holding a bulkhead door for hours against Orks despite a breached void hazard suit.

Purpose at Vandros

The Ironclad have come to the Vandros Corridor to obtain fuel and repairs at Crown Dockyards, salvage heavy munitions at Kharon Bastion and navigate the hazardous warp routes around Veyr Gate.

These installations offer the means to sustain their wandering battle group and continue its work of recovering Imperial war matériel. Access to them is therefore a practical necessity as well as a matter of duty.

Current Stance

The Ironclad’s immediate priorities are resupply, repair and reclamation. No allegiance to either succession claimant has been established; their interests centre on the installations and stores upon which their continued operations depend.

Those priorities provide grounds for cooperation with other Imperial forces, including the Ultramarines, Salamanders and Crimson Paladins, wherever their objectives coincide. Shared service to the Imperium does not, however, settle competing demands upon the same dockyards, fuel reserves or munitions.

Chaos drove them from Forge-Anchor Secundus, while Harek’s encounter with Orks provides a direct history of fighting greenskin forces. Xenos attacks upon their ships or recovery operations would threaten both the battle group and the Imperial resources it regards as its duty to preserve.
